Hey Steelers Fans. Welcome to Wednesday.
I’m not the sharpest tool in the shed. Sometimes things take a minute or two to register in my brain. It dawned on me in the early hours of Monday that the Pittsburgh Steelers – and we fans – are in the midst of one, big re-occurring cycle of seasons. We have stretches that are good. Stretches that are bad. We find our way into the postseason. And we lay an egg in the first round. While we are just five games into the 2024 season, this one already feels like a repeat of seasons gone by. Players are frustrated and many are injured. It’s like a bad episode of the Twilight Zone. Actually, that’s probably not right. It’s more like Bill Murray’s ‘Groundhog’s Day.’ We keep waking up to the same thing while expecting different results yet they never come.
Steelers History
Today in Steelers History, Gordon takes us back to the early 1970’s. It’s the first meeting between the Steelers and Oakland Raiders since the Immaculate Reception game. Are the Raiders out for revenge? Did they get it???
The QBs
Mike Tomlin sounded significantly different yesterday when Russell Wilson was brought up. He said he would be a ‘full participant’ in Wednesday’s (Today’s) practice, or at least that was the goal. I thought he almost sounded upbeat about it. Make no mistake, Wilson is going to start a game at some point in the near future. It might not be this week, but it feels like it’s getting closer. That’s not a knock on Justin Fields either. They have to see what Wilson can do in this offense at some point and if it doesn’t work? Go back to Fields.
Did I Miss Something?
Lost in all of the discussion over George Pickens and his lack of snaps was the fact that the Pittsburgh Steelers, one of the great franchises in professional sports, allowed him to go on the field wearing every black that read “Always F***ing Open.” Yeah I know… Go back to your cave ‘get off my lawn guy.’ No, I won’t. Not one person in that organization thought that was a horrible look?

Nick Farabaugh of PennLive.com made a great point. Why is this offense not doing anything about finding ways to get Pickens and Pat Freiermuth the ball more? He’s exactly right… I can already tell you that should get your scorecard out for Sunday. Some of the names you’ll see – likely at OLB – will be unfamiliar to many of you because of injuries… Devin White was released by the Eagles this morning. He’s just 26 years old. I would definitely kick the tires on him… Prior to posting this I saw an interaction on Twitter, or ‘X’ that I wanted to mention. A very well-respected and dedicated beat writer for the Steelers was being attacked personally simply because of his reporting and opinions on the Steelers. I don’t understand why people behave this way. Argue the points or argue the opinion but there’s no need for ugly, personal attacks. We see enough of that in this world.
