Hey Steelers Fans. Welcome to Wednesday.

The players return to the practice field today after Monday’s sessions of film review, meetings and walk-thrus. Tuesday is of course the players’ day off. On to the latest…

Tomlin Talk

I think Mike Tomlin did the best he could to stop questions about a potential quarterback controversy but I’m not sure he did enough. It was bound to come up during his weekly presser yesterday and it did. Tomlin was very clear in that Russell Wilson isn’t 100% and they are moving forward as if Justin Fields will start Sunday in Denver. I will say this because I know it’s come up in some circles… They could feel like Wilson has seen his skills diminish and rather than just demote him they are playing the “bad calf” thing. Tomlin has done this before… He also announced what we all knew, which was that Cam Johnston was out for the season. He is expected to undergo surgery this week.

#LC4HOF

Steelers’ legend and four-time Super Bowl Champion L.C. Greenwood was one of six former Steelers named in the Seniors’ Category yesterday. His induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame is something I’ve supported for years. A member of the Steel Curtain, Greenwood had better career numbers than some others who were already in the Hall. His continued absence is a shame and this needs to be addressed. I’m using #LC4HOF in my social media posts in support of him.

More of the Same?

Did you happen to see Justin Fields’ pass chart from Sunday? Everything he threw was to the numbers or the sideline. There wasn’t one throw over the middle. To be fair, the Falcons’ safety duo of Jessie Bates III and Justin Simmons is good reason not to go there but this is a pattern we’ve seen in recent seasons. Arthur Smith has to be willing to let his QBs go there on occasion. Otherwise better defenses will adjust and then it will really be an issue.

Justin Fields

Arrow Up on the Rookie Center

Zach Frazier wasn’t perfect on Sunday by any stretch but there’s no reason to think he can’t be the Steelers’ center for the next decade. His strength, speed and smarts were on full display.

Steelers History

This week Gordon takes us back to 1974 when the Steelers and Denver Broncos did something that had never been done before in the NFL.

Random Reads

The Browns are absolutely desperate to get out of DeShaun Watson’s contract. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were alleging things against him themselves… Lots of concern in Cincinnati today. Joe Burrow was clearly bothered by his wrist throughout their loss to New England… It feels like the Ravens and Chiefs played like a month ago… I wouldn’t call Denver a rival but they’ve broken my heart several times in the last 20 years… If that’s true about Deion Sanders telling the Colorado band to not play the fight song so the PA can play his son’s rap song then we’ve really jumped the shark. I’m a traditionalist. It’s about the team.
