What’s that biblical saying? “And a child shall lead them?” Well, that’s not exactly it but it’s damn close and today in Cleveland it was the “children” who led the Pittsburgh Steelers to a 15-10 win over the Browns. Najee Harris and Pat Freiermuth, the Steelers’ first and second round selections in this spring’s draft, both made one play after another while center Kendrick Green and tackle Dan Moore continued to show improvement as well.
Harris ran 26 times for 91 yards and added another 29 yards on three receptions to bolster the Steelers’ offense. He ran behind an offensive line that is far from perfect but it is most definitely trending in the right direction as the Steelers won their third straight game.
Freiermuth had the play of the day on a juggling, fourth down catch in the back of the end zone to give the Steelers the lead. He was able to get one foot down while dragging the other while he gained possession of the ball. He had four receptions for 44 yards total as he is clearly becoming a favorite target of Ben Roethlisberger.
Speaking of Roethlisberger, while he’s far from being a rookie, he played his best overall game of the season throwing for 255 yards and a score on 22/35 passing. It was further proof that when he doesn’t turn the ball over the Steelers’ chances of winning grow significantly.
Green and Moore may end up being the anchors of this O-Line for years to come. Moore was left isolated against Myles Garrett nearly all day and while he was beaten several times, the Steelers showed their faith in him and he responded. No one has questioned the attitude and will of Green but his lack of experience and overall strength has had many question whether he should even be in there. He has answered the bell every single week and keeps on fighting and getting better.
At 4-3, the Steelers are above .500 for many reasons and while the veterans have been impressive today was all about the rookies.
