What is it about drama that draws so many people to it? Is it essentially the same principle that makes us not want to look away from a train wreck? Since the Pittsburgh Steelers’ season ended more than a week ago there has been no shortage of drama and I for one am tired of it.
Perhaps it should not come as a shock because the drama was happening throughout the season. From Antonio Brown’s custom shoes and celebrations to Joey Porter’s arrest, the drama has dominated things with the Black and Gold.
Despite the pads and helmets being put away, the drama has kept itself front and center. Two days after the loss to New England, Ben Roethlisberger created a firestorm with his “I’m keeping my options open for 2017” comment.
Even though the Facebook Live incident is over and done Brown is now facing new questions about his route running. It’s been suggested that he purposefully ran incorrect routes on plays where he wasn’t the first option. This isn’t something I’m going to comment on until I go back and look at the tape a bit more but it has created more unnecessary drama.
That wasn’t the only bit of recent drama though as both Joey Porter and Mike Tomlin have been accused of “inappropriate behavior” at their son’s high school football games. Considering the delivery of this news was from John Steigerwald I’ll wait for more confirmation of this. Steigerwald is notorious for his witch hunts and this one seems no different.
At this time, I’ve learned that the accusations against Porter may have ‘some’ merit while those against Tomlin do not. Several players and parents from the school took to Twitter to take Steigerwald’s assertions to task arguing these things just aren’t true.
Frankly, I really don’t care anymore about all of this crap. What concerns me most is that the Rooney’s and Kevin Colbert get their house in order. I’m open to anything right now and I get the feeling when Art Rooney II speaks in the coming days that his tone will not be joyous. I’m not sure I know what to expect but it won’t be pleasant.
This team has too much talent and too much on the line for 2017 for this nonsense to continue. The drama needs to end and the House of Rooney needs to get right in the worst way.
