It’s Only a Matter of Time Until Aaron Rodgers is a Steeler

I’ve tried to convince myself otherwise over the last couple of months but everything seems to come back to Aaron Rodgers being a Pittsburgh Steeler. How did I come to this decision? It wasn’t easy, but there are too many things that line up for me to believe otherwise. And make no mistake, I’m not happy about it.

I could easily suggest that the clincher was Rodgers having a throwing session with new Steelers’ wide receiver D.K. Metcalf at UCLA. The fact that Rodgers just “randomly” chose Metcalf to work out with is curious enough but then somehow there happened to be a camera or two there as well. Aaron Rodgers doesn’t do things without some sort of plan or intent behind them.

Is it possible this is just a massive ‘troll job’ by Rodgers? Absolutely it is. He’s not naive; he knows the majority of Steelers’ fans aren’t crazy about him being in the Black and Gold. So would it be beyond him to do such a thing? Nope.

Listening to both Mike Tomlin and Omar Khan – masters of saying a lot without saying anything – I just got this overwhelming feeling that Rodgers is destined to be here. While both had glowing things to say about Mason Rudolph, Tomlin and Khan also know their overall chances of getting to the postseason increase with Rodgers.

You could easily say that the Steelers are already geared for 2026 rather than 2025 based strictly on the comments of Khan this week but the Steelers don’t “tank.” Despite desperately needing to upgrade at many spots, the Steelers will always strive to be competitive. It’s honorable and appreciated by me but is it worth what likely comes with Rodgers?

Tomlin and Khan seem prepared to deal with the weekly stints on ‘The Pat McAfee Show’ and the deflections of blame onto others for a season. I’m not thrilled about it but Rodgers coming to Pittsburgh seems inevitable now. If anything, he either retires or plays for the Steelers. The only thing left to do is ponder the contract… And the millions that could have gone to shore up other positions.
