2 Free Agent Cornerbacks that could be on Steelers’ radar

by Carlos Azahar

Even a blind, 1,000 year old man with no type of football knowledge whatsoever could see that the Steelers secondary was less than stellar this year. All throughout the season, they were getting manhandled and beaten. They desperately need some talent that can inject some life into this ailing unit.

The team can’t possibly just hope that a draft pick will pan out. They have to be proactive in their approach to free agency. They must be aggressive when chasing a player they like, or else I have a bad feeling about this season.

So who could possibly be joining the team this upcoming season? Here’s 2 of my more favorite cornerbacks who have a realistic opportunity to be signed by the team.

1). Chris Culliver

I’ve talked about Culliver before: he’s a sharp, young (26 years old) guy who has a very good chance of becoming our #1 cornerback.

Measuring in at 6 ft 0 in, 199 lbs., he has the size to fit in nicely with the team. His four interceptions and 44 tackles speak for themselves.

He’s a guy that could possibly slip to us for a hefty, but fair price. He could be intrigued by the fact that the Steelers are a team that is a contender for the Super Bowl.

Anytime the big game is on the line, the chance for that team to sign someone rises significantly.

Chris would be a monumental upgrade to our secondary.

2) Davon House

House is a 6 ft 0 in, 195 lbs. man ready to throw his name out there. I believe he is due for a big year, and only at age 25, he still has plenty of upside.

Davon is one of my more favorite corners on the market right now. He has the ideal size, age, and price tag to turn heads at coaching staff meetings. House really hasn’t had many opportunities to show off his game.

In 2014, he recorded one interception, 27 tackles, 10 passes defensed, and one forced fumble. He’s by no means a finished product at age 25.

One of the main reasons why I’m so excited about Davon House is because of his tremendous upside. He has the size and talent to become a household name in this league. I would love to see how defensive coordinator Keith Butler could mold this guy into a real threat.

House is just a rocket ready to take off.
