WPIAL Semifinal and Quarterfinal Results

Tonight, the semifinals took place in four WPIAL classifications (6A, 4A, 3A, and 1A). The winners advance to Heinz Field where they will play in the Championship Games next Saturday. In the other two classifications (5A and 2A), tonight’s games were the quarterfinals. The 5A and 2A semifinals will take place next week at neutral sites. Here are the results of tonight’s games along with next week’s matchups.

Class 6A

Semifinal Results

5. Seneca Valley 31, 1. North Allegheny 14
Seneca Valley dominated the second half and the best defense in 6A clamped down on North Allegheny’s offense. Seneca Valley has defeated North Allegheny 3 times in the last 17 years – twice in the WPIAL semifinals

2. Pine-Richland 46, 3. Mt. Lebanon 16
Mt Lebanon turned the ball over a number of times in the first half and Pine-Richland makes it back to Heinz Field for a chance to defend their WPIAL Championship.

Class 5A

Quarterfinal Results

1. Gateway 35 9. Franklin Regional 0
Gateway continues to roll in their quest to repeat as WPIAL Champions.

5. West Allegheny 14, 13. Woodland Hills 13
Kam Kruze threw a touchdown pass with 1:16 remaining after converting a 4th down and West Allegheny beat Woodland Hills 14-13 for the second time this season.

2. Penn Hills 34, vs 7. McKeesport 7
The best secondary in the WPIAL came through with multiple interceptions that turned into points.

3. Peters Twp 38, 6. Penn-Trafford 35
In a back-and-forth game that was tied a number of times, Peters Twp kicked a field goal with 3 seconds remaining to reach the semifinals for the first time since 1976.

Class 4A

Semifinal Results

1. Thomas Jefferson 47, 4. Blackhawk 7
Thomas Jefferson dominated all the way to make it back to Heinz Field with a chance to become the 3rd WPIAL team to win 4 straight titles.

2. South Fayette 28 3. Belle Vernon 10
South Fayette makes it back to Heinz Field for the first time since 2015.

Class 3A

Semifinal Results

1. Aliquippa 42, 4. Beaver Falls 14
The Quips rolled past their rival Beaver Falls to reach the WPIAL Championship Game for the 11th straight season.

2. Derry 36 3. North Catholic 29
Derry came back from a 29-15 deficit in the 4th quarter, capping it off with a 30-yard pick-six with less than 2 minutes to play to take the lead.

Class 2A

Quarterfinal Results

8. South Side Beaver 32, 1. Shady Side Academy 16
Shady Side Academy star QB Skyy Moore was sidelined with an ankle injury and South Side Beaver’s ground game dominated. Jake Botkin scored two rushing TDs and Trenton Seik ran for two scores and threw for another TD for the Rams.

4. Charleroi 42, 5. Mohawk 13
Mohawk had an early lead but Charleroi dominated the second half. The Cougars make the semifinals for the first time since 1981.

7. Freedom 7, 2. Burgettstown 6
Two tough defenses battled it out and Freedom’s early touchdown held up. Freedom makes the semifinals for the first time since 2003.

3. Steel Valley 39, 6. Washington 7
Steel Valley gets revenge on Washington in a rematch of last year’s 2A Championship Game.

Class 1A

Semifinal Results

5. Rochester 27, 1. Jeannette 0
Jeannette had knocked Rochester out of the playoffs the last two seasons, but the Rams got their revenge with a strong rushing attack and stifling defense.

3. OLSH 27, 2. Clairton 7
OLSH jumped out to a 14-0 lead and hung on to reach the WPIAL Championship for the first time in school history.
