WPIAL BLITZ SHOW 2022 Week 6 with Laurel Highlands Head Coach Rich Kolesar

by Ian

The WPIAL football season entered the second half with two historic results. Shaler defeated Woodland Hills for the first time ever as the Titans started conference play 1-0. Additionally, Laurel Highlands topped Thomas Jefferson for the first time in school history. Prior to Friday night, the Mustangs had been 0-28 against the Jaguars, dating back to the 1960s. Following their big win over Thomas Jefferson, which puts Laurel Highlands right in the mix to host a home playoff game, we interviewed Mustangs head coach Rich Kolesar. Last year the Mustangs got off to their best start in school history, adopting the “Not Your Father’s Mustangs” mantra. They delivered on that tagline by winning the first playoff game in school history. Now, they have beaten perennial powerhouse Thomas Jefferson for the first time ever. Coach Kolesar certainly has the Mustangs moving in the right direction and are now poised to make a big playoff run.

WPIAL Blitz Show Week 5 Player of the Week (Presented by Brute Athletic)

Our Player of the Week from Week 5 was Highlands RB Aaran Randolph. In the Golden Rams conference showdown against Mars, they installed a wildcat package with Randolph taking the direct snap. He put together an amazing game that started with a 21-yard receiving touchdown in the first quarter. In the second, Randolph scored touchdowns on four straight plays then threw a 56-yard pass to Chandler Thimons, who normally plays QB for Highlands.  You can follow his Twitter and Hudl pages. WPIAL Blitz Show Week 4 Unit of the Week (Presented by Brute Athletic)

In a new feature, our Unit of the Week was the Keystone Oaks Punt Return team. In a 42-0 thumping of Charleroi, Keystone Oaks returned a punt for a touchdown and blocked two more punts, returning both of those for touchdowns. Clinton Robinson started the parade to the end zone in the first quarter with an 80-yard punt return touchdown. In the second quarter, Dimajio Locante returned a blocked punt 36 yards for a score and Anthony Stribling returned another blocked punt 30 yards to give the Golden Eagles a 27-0 halftime lead.
