The WPIAL football season is now about a third of the way over with 3 games in the books. This was the second week of non-conference games that were scheduled by the WPIAL and once again delivered as there were a number of good matchups. On this week’s show, we interviewed Hempfield Area head coach Mike Brown who took over the Spartans program last year. Hempfield went 2-8 last year in 6A but moved down to 5A this season, and is off to a 3-0 start, averaging 49 points per game. This is their first 3-0 start since 2016 and with a win over Shaler would have their first 4-0 start since 1971. Check out our interview with Coach Brown and the rest of this week’s show:

WPIAL Blitz Show Week 2 Player of the Week (Presented by Brute Athletic)
Our Player of the Week from Week 2 was Penn Hills RB Amir Key. In a showdown against Pine-Richland, who tied Penn Hills for the conference title last year, Key ran for 216 yards and 3 TDs. With only the top two teams in each 5A Conference guaranteed a playoff spot, every conference win is massive. We may very well look back on this game at the end of the year as the deciding factor in the Northeast Conference title race.
