The semifinals in Classes 5A and 2A took place on Friday night with the winners moving on to the Championship Games next Saturday at Norwin Stadium. The WPIAL Championship games in Classes 6A, 4A, 3A, and 1A will take place on Saturday afternoon at Heinz Field. Check out our preview of those four games. Here is a rundown of the results from Friday night’s semifinals along with the Championship Matchups for next weekend.
Class 5A
Semifinal Results
5. Peters Twp 28, 1. Penn-Trafford 10
Peters Twp fell behind early but stormed back to reach the WPIAL Championship for the first time in school history!
2. Gateway 14, 6. McKeesport 7
In a much closer game than their first meeting, McKeesport took an early lead but Gateway scored 14 points in the third quarter to get back to the WPIAL final for the second time in three years.

Class 2A
Semifinal Results
1. Washington 20, 5. Brentwood 14
Washington scored on the first two drives of the game but Brentwood’s defense locked it down after that. Brentwood came back to tie the game at 14 in the third quarter but Washington scored a 4th quarter touchdown and their defense did the rest to get the Prexies back to the WPIAL final for the second time in three seasons.
2. Avonworth 41, 14. Riverside 14
Avonworth’s perfect season continued with a dominant performance shutting down Riverside’s passing attack. Avonworth reaches the WPIAL Championship for the first time since 2014 and is looking for their first WPIAL title since 1959.
