The NFL Draft has concluded and some of the fan base hasn’t seen much film on any of the draft picks we have selected. I went through some film and highlighted each prospect with two good plays and one play that is cause for concern. It’s not a full film review, but I thought this would be a fun exercise for familiarity. I will do the Day Three picks in another post.
Terrell Edmunds: Round 1
Edmunds with the pass breakup in trail coverage. Excellent last second burst to be in position.
Edmunds with excellent recognition and a textbook open field tackle.
Edmunds gets a bit out of position, cant close fast enough and cant defend the pass. Touchdown.
James Washington: Round 2
Washington at his Pro Day – Uses his long arms, excellent extension. High points the football, incredible snag.
Washington gets pulled back, still stays on course, adjusts, displays excellent focus to reel in the catch.
This happens a bit on deep throws. Washington’s hands aren’t placed correctly and the ball slips through. Should be a long gain.
Mason Rudolph: Round 3a
Rudolph feels pressure from the right side, keeps his composure, climbs the pocket and delivers a perfectly thrown ball to the Steelers’ 2nd round pick James Washington.
Rudolph goes through his progression and runs out of time with pressure ensuing. He barely escapes, sets his feet and throws an accurate 35 yard pass, which ultimately scores a touchdown. Bravo.
A big flaw in Rudolph’s game is his decision making. Sometimes you just have to cut your losses and take a sack to preserve a chance at points. He does the opposite. Rudolph is pressured and throws into double coverage for an interception.
Chukwuma Okorafor: Round 3b
Strong base, decent kick-slide, recognizes an inside move by the pass rusher, adjusts and uses his strength and long arms to handle the rush.
Okorafor with good hand placement, footwork and displayed the physicality needed at the position. Washes the defender completely out of the play. Best rep of the year for him.
What kind of block is this? Zero hand usage, barely any contact, is slow off the ball. Horrible rep.
