The Pittsburgh Steelers got it right. Only time will tell of course if that statement does indeed ring true, but in the present? They got it right. The Steelers drafted Oregon Defensive Lineman Derrick Harmon last night with the 21st pick in the first round.

The fact that fans are complaining about this suggests they are either mad that they didn’t draft a quarterback or that they don’t know football. Both of these things are likely accurate. The last time we saw the Black and Gold on the field, Derrick Henry was running through them like a hot knife through butter. Taking one of the top defensive linemen in this Draft is a much smarter move than choosing a quarterback just because “he’s there.”

For those in the Shedeur Sanders camp, keep in mind that every other team in the first round passed on him too. And no one traded back into the first to get him either. For all I know, Sanders will go on to a terrific NFL career, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that the Steelers got this right.

Harmon was giddy last night at the thought of playing with and learning from Cam Heyward as he should be. Harmon should be a plug and play defensive lineman with versatility, effort and smarts. The Detroit native played three seasons at Michigan State before heading West to play at Oregon.

There are some concerned with a shoulder injury and that’s fair. He didn’t miss a game over his last three seasons however. His pre-draft visit to the Steelers likely included a thorough medical check which convinced the Steelers he was good to go.

As we head into day two, the Steelers have just the third round pick (barring a trade) and I would think running back, defensive back and maybe quarterback would be the top priorities. Until we get there this evening just know that Omar Khan and company got this right. Harmon can play right away and that’s what matter here.
