Steelers Fans Watching Tom Brady Situation Closely

by Steelbydesign

When the Wells Report came out Wednesday saying that Tom Brady at least “generally knew” about the Patriots equipment staff deflating balls, I shrugged and didn’t think much of it.

I’m probably one of the biggest Patriot haters around. I’ve had plenty of Steelers fans say I’m crazy when I say I hate the Patriots more than any team out there, including the Ravens. I actually have a pretty healthy respect for the Ravens franchise.

I loved seeing Tom Brady and the Patriots squirm in the lead up to the Superbowl last season. All that being said, I don’t think “Deflate-gate” (which I hate the name by the way) is that big of a deal. So when I heard about the Wells Report, that’s why I didn’t really care.

However, once I heard that Tom Brady could be facing a suspension I suddenly got interested REAL quick.

I’ve heard multiple games discussed, and even a year long suspension which seems insane to me. If Brady gets 1 game I’ll be ecstatic.

If Tom Brady plays, and I know Steelers fans don’t want to hear this, but I really don’t think the Steelers have a chance of beating the Brady-lead Pats, in Foxborough, with the crowd pumped up to welcome back the defending champs. It’s a tough game to win anyway, and visiting teams in the week 1 game have traditionally not fared well.

On the flip side, if Brady doesn’t play I actually think the New England roster isn’t all that talented and having the best QB in the game covers that up. The Steelers would need to focus their energy on stopping Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman. And even without Le’Veon Bell I expect the Steelers offense to score a lot on that Darelle Revis, Brandon Browner, and Vince Wilfork-less defense.

The implications of winning that game are huge… much bigger than just starting the season 1-0.

The Steelers only play 2 games that are different than their division foes this season. However, the Steelers playing the Patriots and Colts instead of the Dolphins and Jaguars (like the Ravens), or the Bills and Texans (like the Bengals) will be a huge obstacle in repeating as the AFC North champions.

The Steelers stealing a win against the best team in the AFC could be the difference in what will surely be a tight division race.

I’m getting ahead of myself here, but if the Steelers have a very good season and are fighting for a bye in the playoffs at the end of the year, you know the Patriots will be one of the top 3 teams in the AFC this season. Holding a tie-breaker over the Pats would be a great thing to have.

Brady getting suspended in September could be the difference between a Steelers/Patriots matchup being in Pittsburgh vs. New England in January.

Lots to happen before all of that, but the fact is Brady getting suspended could affect the Steelers season in a big way.
