SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “You Don’t Say?” Edition

Good Tuesday to you Steelers fans.

There are few things in life less meaningful than a pre-draft press conference. No disrespect to General Manager Kevin Colbert or Head Coach Mike Tomlin, but even they know these are nothing more than opportunities to speak in generalities and blow more smoke than Lake Erie along Cleveland. All of us listen for key words or phrases that may actually say something to us and there were a few moments like that yesterday but by and large nothing of substance was really said in Pittsburgh yesterday. If you think you have a clear line on where they are going in round one then you must be a mind reader because as usual neither man showed their hand. They both acknowledged what we all know; the offensive line and running game has to be better. Tomlin commented that it’s not just about new players but getting the guys we have to execute better. Some think this may indicate that an offensive lineman isn’t as high on their list as we believe it should be but I’m not buying that. Few things grind Art Rooney II and the organization more than finishing dead last in the NFL in rushing. I will be STUNNED if that area is not seriously upgraded. Despite Tomlin’s best efforts to hype up Dwayne Haskins yesterday, the drafting of a QB remains quite high. My personnel feeling is that this is NOT the draft to do that. Unless Justin Fields or Trey Lance gets to you I’m passing on quarterbacks this year. Way too many other needs right now.

The Podcast

Don’t forget we are doing our show during the Draft so we are hoping to have real time reaction to what the Steelers do! Obviously if there is a trade up or down we will do our best react accordingly! Make sure you tune in to the SCB Steelers Podcast presented by DEK Roofing Inc!

Tweet of the Day… This is REALLY good.

Sticking to the Board

The Steelers will no doubt follow their usual Draft principles when their selection approaches in the first round. This means that they usually will stick to their board and go for the best player available despite a “need” at other positions. For instance, we all know that a RB or O-Lineman is a massive need but what if Christian Barmore was available at 24? Yes, my friends, the Steelers would likely take him. What we all must remember is that no matter whose board you look at across the internet I guarantee you that it doesn’t match the one located in Pittsburgh.

Draft Content

We probably don’t put out as much content compared to other Steelers’ sites but I guarantee our content is original and first rate in terms of opinion and analysis. Our Draft coverage is no different. Here’s a link to get you geared up for next week.
