Good Wednesday to you Steelers fans.
If you were told once you were told a thousand times. The 53-man roster the Pittsburgh Steelers announced on Tuesday would not be the roster they have by opening weekend. With just four cornerbacks on the current roster, there is no way in the wide world of sports they don’t increase that number this week. Six inside linebackers? That’s highly unusual. Did they keep Ulysees Gilbert and Marcus Allen around just to be dumped later when a new cornerback or offensive lineman arrives? Stephon Tuitt has not practiced once, ONCE! Since Camp opened. Is he headed for the IR or PUP List? There is much work to be done and it will no doubt start with that cornerback position and on the offensive line. I would be surprised if things don’t start happening as early as today.
Henry Mondeaux made the roster? B.J. Finney did not? Those were two of the bigger surprises for me yesterday. Although I do not expect Mondeaux to be around when they make the trip to Buffalo. Not sure that Gilbert or Allen will be around either. Roster spots will be needed for new guys that are sure to come in. Lastly, I can’t recall a bad snap from Kam Canaday in four years. Not sure what he did or didn’t do so this move to Christian Kuntz has to be purely financial.
Tweet of the Day… We discussed Tuitt on the podcast. Every single one of us deals with loss and grief in our way. We are in no place to judge how Tuitt feels right now. His brother was tragically and suddenly killed this summer.
Here's Chris Wormley on Tuitt:
"We're giving him as much time as he needs. I think him being around us has been great. Not only for us but for him and our morale. We're supporting him on this journey back to being with us and we're excited to have him back whenever that is."

We recorded episode 234 of the SCB Steelers Podcast presented by DEK Roofing in last night. One of our SCB contributors Jeff joined Ian and SteelDad to break down the Steelers’ roster moves and there was a lot to digest. From surprise cuts to unusual numbers of guys at specific positions we covered it all and also discussed what is going with both Zach Banner and Stephon Tuitt. Tune into the show or check out our video on the SCB YouTube page!
Don’t be surprised if over the next few days we hear about players making number changes. One such example could be Pat Freiermuth. Currently 88, he could take 87 with Kevin Rader having been released. 87 is his college number.
The Steelers must not be concerned about him holding out if they kept just three other EDGE rushers. Still, nothing new to report on the contract.
Have a great day Steeler Nation!
