SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Woe is Me” Edition

Good Tuesday to you Steelers’ Fans.

I’m going to take a momentary break from Draft talk to discuss something troubling. It’s something we Steelers’ fans know all too well thanks to recent events but I can’t help but wonder from where it stems. I’ve noticed recently in professional sports that there is this growing number of players (especially star players) who can’t seem to stop whining and feeling sorry for themselves or they take their issues out on reporters or officials. From Kevin Durant to Bryce Harper and of course our very own (formerly) Antonio Brown, these guys crave attention through social media then when they don’t like something someone says they act out. Whether he had a gripe or not, Harper can’t get thrown out of baseball games. He’s too valuable to his team. The same can be said for Kevin Durant who gets ‘T’ed’ up more than Bill Laimbeer ever did. But then they make it worse by sitting in press conferences where they give terse answers or give very few at all. Look, I know those aren’t things these guys would like to be doing but don’t we all have aspects of our jobs that we power through because…. THEY’RE PART OF OUR JOBS! Perhaps I’m just getting to that old man stage but I’d like to think better of myself. When Antonio Brown went on his anti-media rant last year about this time at OTAs I was dumbfounded. “I can’t ever train in private because people won’t leave me alone…” Maybe stop posting everything you do and every place you are on social media then! Are we supposed to feel bad for these guys? I’m over their pity parties and I’d like to see a lot more fans be over them as well.

Tweet of the Day… Two days in a row in this spot for Uncle Ed! However, this thinking is exactly why people believe the way the Steelers do things has become antiquated. The Steelers do not have the luxury of tremendous depth at most positions therefore this idea of a ‘redshirt season’ is preposterous. We need guys that can play NOW.

Steelers’ GM Kevin Colbert gave my favorite press conference of the year yesterday. This is the one he holds annually right before the Draft. I love it because I enjoy watching people fall over themselves trying to decipher exactly what he has said about the team’s Draft strategy. My advice? Stop trying! Do you honestly think he’s going to lay out anything that they may actually do? There was so much shit flying in that presser that I’m surprised the beat writers weren’t wearing hip boots.

Oh and my favorite thing from yesterday was about the cornerbacks. Colbert was asked why the team struggles to develop cornerbacks and he mentioned that isn’t always true and cited Ike Taylor and Bryant McFadden. Does Kevin realize what century we are in? Fair point and all but how long ago were these two? Sheesh.

I’m working diligently on my one and only mock and I’ll tell you right now, these aren’t easy especially when you have ten selections!

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
