SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “What in the Heck?” Edition

Good Monday to you Steelers fans.

Maybe there’s a reason we can’t have nice things. It seems every time we have things going smoothly a Steelers’ player comes along and makes you say “What in the heck?” I try to remind myself often that many of these players are still young men. That’s no excuse for odd, bizarre or inappropriate behavior but it’s something to consider. I know I wasn’t perfect in my early 20’s but I’d like to think I had “some” common sense. Third-year linebacker Devin Bush, who up until just recently was relatively quiet, has suddenly become quite the social media pariah. He’s tweeted strange things about grown men being on Tik Tok and then decided to pass on a video of a cat that fell to its death. Yeah, you read that correctly. Who in the hell thinks it’s a good idea to share a video of an animal dying? I’ve been a duck hunter a long time but that doesn’t mean I’m going to put a video on social media of one of them being shot. Bush needs to consider his audience a bit more. Lots of kids follow him on social media and I can only imagine some of their reactions. I get that he’s an adult and that social media is always a place where trouble lurks around every corner but Bush’s recent behavior is concerning. If I’m Kevin Colbert or Mike Tomlin this isn’t what I want to see out of a guy I’m depending heavily on in 2021. This is not as egregious and awful as many other things that have been done by NFL players but if you aren’t scratching your head a bit then I don’t know what to tell you.

The Podcast

If you missed the SCB Steelers Podcast presented by DEK Roofing Inc last week then here it is for your listening enjoyment. We discussed Kevin Dotson, the offensive line, why the Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating contest is stupid and much more.

Tweet of the Day… Yes please.

Secondary What If

For all of the time we have spent (and will spend) talking about the Steelers’ offensive line, I have some questions about the secondary. Rather than look on negatively, let me take a positive spin here. What if James Pierre, an undrafted free agent last year, takes a big leap and becomes a guy who can consistently play on the boundary? What if Antoine Brooks makes a big step in his second year? Beat writers are suggesting he could be an option for the slot corner position. What if rookies Tre Norwood and Shakur Brown become dependable players?

Don’t Take the Bait

Since I’m already mentioning social media, I’ve noticed that some rival fans like to post videos of JuJu Smith-Schuster’s dance routines that he himself posts. They then accompany the video with disparaging comments about “this is your wide receiver??” Don’t take the bait friends. Imagine that this is how you enjoy your day… You send Steelers’ fans tweets to enrage them? My advice friends is to just keep scrolling.
