SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Watt a Year” Edition

Watt

Good Friday to you Steelers’ Fans.

Steelers’ Linebacker T.J. Watt was selected as the team’s MVP this week by his teammates and unlike last year, there will be no drama and no one sulking on the sidelines over this. Watt has been terrific all year long and whether or not he wins the Defensive Player of the Year Award I cannot say but there have been few Steelers as deserving as of the team MVP award as much as Watt. Steelers’ ESPN beat reporter Brooke Pryor had this great piece on Watt and how a board game has helped grow team chemistry. You can’t teach how Watt goes about football or life in general and I for one am ecstatic that we have him in Black and Gold.

The Podcast

Ben and I recorded episode 160 of the SCB Steelers Podcast last night. We talked about JuJu Smith-Schuster, the QB situation, the offensive offense and a whole lot more. The podcast is presented by 26shirts.com/Pittsburgh.

Tweet of the Day… Um, not a good look here Mr. Glass.

From the Training Room

STEELERS

CB Steven Nelson (Groin) – Full
LB Mark Barron (NIR) – Full
RB James Conner (Quad) – DNP
C Maurkice Pouncey (Knee) – DNP
G David DeCastro (NIR) – Full
T Alejandro Villanueva (NIR) – Full
TE Vance McDonald (NIR) – Full
LB T.J. Watt (NIR) – Full
DT Cameron Heyward (NIR) – Full
CB Joe Haden (Foot) – DNP
G Ramon Foster (NIR) – DNP

RAVENS

TE Mark Andrews (Ankle) – DNP
CB Brandon Carr (NIR) – Full
RB Mark Ingram (Ankle) – DNP
DT Brandon Williams (NIR) – DNP
DT Chris Wormley (NIR) – DNP
CB Marcus Peters (Chest) – Limited
CB Jimmy Smith (NIR) – Limited
S Earl Thomas (NIR) – DNP

NOTES… Andrews not playing would be another huge plus for the Steelers… Steve Nelson being a full participant is good. His status looked iffy a day ago… You can put both Conner and Pouncey on the shelf for Sunday.

Looking WAY Ahead

I normally refuse to talk ‘Draft’ until the season ends but the needs of the Steelers are starting to mount. In no particular order I think Outside LB (assuming Dupree leaves for a big payday) is a need, Center, Guard, Defensive Line, Tight End, Running Back and Safety are major areas of need. With no first or third round selection as of this writing the Steelers have to hit on that second rounder and be more successful than normal with late round picks too.

Have a great weekend Steeler Nation!
