SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “VWill and Bos” Edition

Good Friday to you Steelers’ Fans!

The Pittsburgh Steelers have a long standing tradition where once the regular season begins they no longer negotiate contracts. Therefore it isn’t abnormal for them to get some deals done this time of year. That was the case yesterday as they extended the contract of Vince Williams and gave kicker Chris Boswell a brand new deal. For the “Wizard of Bos,” his contract places him in the top echelon of NFL kickers and rightfully so. Since joining the Steelers as nothing more than a ‘placeholder,’ Boswell has become one of the more consistent and clutch kickers around. As for Williams, the former sixth round pick finds himself the 28th highest paid inside backer and will no doubt be a ‘Steeler for life’ as his deal expires when he’s 34 years old. ‘VWill’ has been a positive and hard-working force on the team and with already thin ranks at the position, retaining his services was an easy decision.

We laid out much more detail on the above and talked a lot more Steelers last night on the Steel City Blitz Podcast Presented by 26shirts.com/Pittsburgh. Give it a listen by clicking the link or visiting these other sites.

While the current president is still working on getting his wall built, the Steelers have had no problem building one of their own. A two-story ‘wall or curtain’ is going up along the practice field. Mike Tomlin was quite non-committal when asked about it but what was clear was that they believe the added privacy was needed.

Tweet of the Day… This guy would know!

The Browns beat the Eagles last night 5-0. Yes, that’s the right score… Tyrod Taylor banged up his non-throwing hand but is believed to be OK while first round pick Denzel Ward suffered a back injury. I’ll say this for the Brownies, they know how to keep things interesting.

It’s ‘Week 0′ in the WPIAL and Ian has you covered on all the action!

Obviously all eyes will be on Ben Roethlisberger and Antonio Brown tomorrow in Pittsburgh but keep an eye out also for the “bubble guys.” Players like Malik Golden, Farrington Huguenin and Jaylen Samuels are fighting for roster spots among many others. These are great battles to watch because these guys aren’t just trying to show for this team but any other that may need their services as well.

Have a great weekend Steeler Nation!
