SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Two Weeks Out” Edition

by Steeldad

Good Friday to You Steelers’ fans,

While the NFL Draft is less than two weeks from beginning, the Steelers’ draft is actually two weeks from today. With the three day event and the Steelers not having an opening round selection, that means their draft actually begins two weeks from today. There’s always the chance they could trade into the first round but I don’t see it. They don’t have the collateral to move up and there’s just too much depth needed to give up picks in this draft. That in mind, it’s two weeks until the Steelers draft and anyone telling you they know their intentions at 49 is full of crap. There are too many needs, too many wants and too many things that can happen in the 48 picks ahead of them. Running back? Linebacker? Safety? Offensive or Defensive Lineman? Anything is in play at 49 and two weeks from tonight we’ll have our answer.

The Podcast

We recorded episode 169 of the Steel City Blitz Steelers Podcast on Wednesday night and we covered a lot of territory from the Draft to the new uniforms in Tampa and Atlanta. Yes, we actually discussed this! The Podcast is presented by DEK Roofing, Inc.

Tweet of the Day… Happy Birthday to the great Mel Blount. I swear the man could still play today.

No, I Don’t See a QB in This Draft

Every NFL Draft has its’ surprises. Perhaps there are lots of unexpected trades or maybe guys fall much further than expected. With that in mind I will NEVER say NEVER but I do not see the Steelers drafting a quarterback in two weeks. Ben Roethlisberger is doing well. His rehab is progressing on schedule if not ahead and he told The Athletic’s Ed Bouchette that he is planning to participate in spring practices and mini-camp. With the ongoing national crisis, it becomes hard to say exactly what transpires. But… Big Ben is under contract this year and next. Mason Rudolph also has this year and next on his contract as well. Unless one of the top level QBs magically drops to 49, I don’t see one being drafted. The Steelers need to too much depth and to waste a pick on a QB would be a serious mistake. Granted, the selections of Landry Jones and Josh Dobbs were both mistakes in my opinion under similar circumstances but I’m sticking to my guns here.
