Good Thursday to you Steelers fans.
Three weeks from tonight all of the speculation, hyperbole and misinformation will finally end. The NFL Draft will take place in Las Vegas, where the host Raiders won’t even pick until the third round. Despite my own personal beliefs I’ve come around to the fact that the Pittsburgh Steelers will in fact draft a quarterback. I do not know which one and I do not know in what round but it’s coming. They have spent way too much time scouting these guys and meeting with these guys for this not to happen in my book. Could I be wrong? Hell yes! And quite honestly I hope I am wrong! I’m of the opinion that Mitchell Trubisky is enough to make the team competitive in 2022 and should he be injured or play terribly, then roll with Mason Rudolph or Dwayne Haskins and let the chips fall where they may. The reason being is that next year’s QB class is already better than the current one, at least in my opinion. In any event, the process comes to an end starting three weeks from tonight and I couldn’t be happier about it. I’m ready to start seeing who the newest members of the Black and Gold will be.

Price Going Up
I wrote earlier in this space that the Steelers do not face as easy a time giving Diontae Johnson a new contract as they would have right when the season ended. In the last 48 hours that statement rings even truer. When the season ended, I think the team could have signed Johnson to a deal that would have paid him roughly $15 million per season. Now with signings like Christian Kirk’s in Jacksonville and Buffalo’s big new extension for Stefon Diggs, Johnson will likely demand closer to $20 million. Many of you probably think like I do in that $20 million is just too damn much for DJ. The problem however isn’t that he could be “worth this or worth that,” it has much more to do with the market. Just like the quarterback market has skyrocketed to ridiculous proportions, the wide receiver market is doing the same. Regardless of what we think Johnson is worth doesn’t matter because when his contemporaries are getting what they are? He’s going to get paid by someone either this year or next.
