SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Struck Nerve” Edition

by Steeldad

Good Tuesday to you Steelers fans.

Apparently I struck a nerve yesterday. Early in the afternoon yesterday I posted an article about how Kevin Colbert and Mike Tomlin gambled on this offensive line and they’ve lost. The number of people who have clicked on this is way higher than our usual numbers. Do many agree? Do many disagree? It’s hard to say. I can tell you this, I stand by what I said. They chose to enter this season with largely unproven commodities to protect a 39-year old quarterback and its failing miserably. Sure, there’s plenty of time to right this ship but how does that happen? The offense is so predictable and so easy to defend right now that I don’t see too many opposing coaches losing sleep. Why Matt Canada has shelved his offense in order to run what we have seen in recent years leads me to believe there are issues with his quarterback. Tomlin admitted in the postgame that the fourth and ten swing pass to Najee Harris was only because they “had run out of plays.” Are you shitting me? Even if true, why not call a play that sends the ball downfield where at the very least they have a chance? Furthermore, why did Ben Roethlisberger so quickly go to Harris? Had he waited a split second a receiver was breaking open at the post. I just don’t get it. In fact, I don’t get a lot of what is going with this team right now.

Tomlin Tuesday

Mike Tomlin will go before the assembled press today. There is no shortage of questions the beat writers will have but it’s unlikely Tomlin answers any. I’m guessing someone will ask about going to Mason Rudolph and that is an answer I look forward to hearing. Not because I think he will but because I think it could speak volumes for where things currently are.

Tweet of the Day…  Very fair observations.

SMACK!

Unless a remarkable turn of events happens with this offense our players suddenly get healthy, it’s likely we are in for a long season. When you’ve been king of the mountain for a long time everyone is trying to knock you off. When they sense you’re wounded that’s when they come the hardest. Tyler Boyd is a perfect example. He says “The Steelers quit on Sunday.” He cited the three dropped passes as a sign Pittsburgh had given up. Perhaps he’s right… But I guarantee you that will be on the bulletin board next time these two play. And Mike Hilton? He claims the Steelers didn’t value him. Not sure what to say Mike. I’d say the Steelers valued you more than the other 31 teams for quite awhile. If it weren’t for the Steelers you wouldn’t even be in the NFL right now. That’s OK though. Enjoy the victory Mike….

Draft Previews

Is it ever too early to talk NFL Draft? It isn’t anymore and Derrick has an excellent look at Nevada Quarterback Carson Strong.
