SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Short Week Numbers” Edition

Good Friday to you Steelers’ Fans!

I’m starting out today with a few statistics for you. With the Steelers on a short week due to the Monday night game I thought I’d throw these nuggets at you. All-time, Pittsburgh is 36-28 in games following an appearance on Monday Night Football. When playing at home following MNF they are 27-21 and here’s the piece that really caught my attention. This Sunday will be their seventh game against Baltimore following a short week. In those games, which were all at home, the Steelers are 3-3. As of this writing I have yet to check the actually stats on the Ravens but I’m very confident that they haven’t had the Steelers on short weeks as often as we’ve had them. Perhaps I’m wrong, but I’d sure take the bet.

Where’s the Podcast?

OK so you may be surprised to hear this but one actually has to be able to speak in order to conduct a podcast. I know, I know… Crazy right?? Well, since Sunday night, this cold I’ve had developed into full blown laryngitis. I have literally had difficulty speaking all week and I admit at times it’s been pretty funny especially since I’m a teacher in my life away from this. I’m going to do my best to get a show recorded tonight but if I don’t talk much you’ll know why. Besides, Ben never shuts up anyway.

Notes… The ankle of James Conner bears watching. He and Jaylen Samuels were a nice one-two combo on Monday but Conner needs to practice today to have a chance to play Sunday… The Steelers could really use Vance McDonald this week. The Browns killed the Ravens with 12 personnel last week and he and Nick Vannett could be a real challenge.

Mason Time?

The Ravens rank 30th in the NFL against the pass and that’s with two wins against winless Miami and Arizona. I have a feeling this is the week we see Mason Rudolph not wait until the second half to throw the ball downfield. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a couple of deeps throws early in the game. Even if those aren’t completed, they could back the Ravens off just enough to open up some things underneath and potentially a more traditional running game than we saw on Monday.

Have a great weekend Steeler Nation!
