SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Ripe for the Picking” Edition

Good Thursday to you Steelers’ Fans.

I realize that our Steelers have significant problems of their own especially when it comes to the injury department. The LA Chargers however are not exactly brimming with health though either. We already know that Derwin James, the all-pro safety is out but their other safety Nasir Adderley is likely out as well. The Bolts are also dinged up in other areas of the defense as well. This isn’t to suggest that either Mason Rudolph or Devlin Hodges will light them up but it’s a heck of a lot better situation than if those guys were back there. Philip Rivers is not playing especially well right now and despite having Melvin Gordon back to add to his strong stable of playmakers, perhaps the Chargers are ripe for the picking. Heading into the BYE week at 2-4 is significantly better than 1-5. I say that because this division is weak and the Ravens and Browns both have some difficult games in the coming weeks.

The Podcast is Up!

After a week off due to my inability to speak, we recorded episode 152 of the Steel City Blitz Steelers Podcast last night. Main topics included Mason Rudolph, Devlin Hodges, the defense with Minkah Fitzpatrick and a somewhat surprising take on James Conner. Tune in people!

It Got Feisty at Practice

Yesterday’s practice on the South Side featured some unusual aggression that some liked and some didn’t. Cam Heyward was all for it citing his team’s 1-4 record as a need to see some fire. Ramon Foster didn’t like it. He suggested that’s what Training Camp is for and when you get into the season that stuff has to stop. There were two plays in particular that got everyone’s attention. Cam Kelly put a hard shot on JuJu Smith-Schuster and James Conner was knocked to the ground by Marcus Allen. That in and of itself should be news. But I have to say this quote from David DeCastro (courtesy of Mark Kaboly and The Athletic) spoke a lot to me. “I really don’t want to talk about it, to be honest. I know you want to know what’s going on, but I don’t want to talk about it,” said guard David DeCastro. What is it exactly that is “going on?” DDC was pretty outspoken about a certain former receiver’s antics last season but he seems to have chosen the high road here. Personally I don’t mind a little bit of chippy play. As Heyward said, “You play how you practice.”

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
