SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Re-Focusing” Edition

Good Wednesday to you Steelers fans.

As terrific as Monday night was in so many ways, there is still a very important game left to be played. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t worried about the team’s ability to ‘re-focus’ after the win and subsequent celebration for Ben Roethlisberger. There are certainly arguments to be made that re-focusing should not be hard at all. After all, the hated Ravens are next up and the chance of a playoff spot still exists. If a team can’t get up and get mentally and physically prepared for that then they probably don’t any have business being at the game in the first place. But still, Monday Night’s win was far from ordinary. The running game worked while the passing game didn’t. The defense recorded nine sacks which included four by T.J. Watt. Do you think he’ll have any issue re-focusing for this game? I doubt it. With the sack record so close he’s going to be like a chained up pitbull watching a cat walk by. This team should have zero excuses heading into this one. If they think for a second that John Harbaugh’s team will lay down like the Browns did then they’ve got another thing coming. Win or lose we should all expect a great effort on Sunday.

Tomlin Record

As you now know, Monday’s win assured Mike Tomlin of a record 15th-straight non-losing season to open a coaching career. I think many fans use this against Tomlin and I shared some thoughts on it last night.

Tweet of the Day… Happy Birthday to the late Emperor.

Chris Morgan

With the departure of Adrian Klemm, Morgan was elevated to the main Offensive Line Coach. While he’s held the position before in Atlanta, there was no indication that he would just keep the job permanently for 2022. Would a two-game audition be enough to give him the job? After Monday Night’s performance, Morgan was given high praise from Tomlin leading many to think he’s taken the first step. Should the O-Line perform well again it will be difficult for Tomlin not to promote him full-time. However, we must analyze whether the Steelers’ strong running game was due to Morgan, JC Hassenauer in place of Kendrick Green or because the Browns were out of postseason contention and looked disinterested at times. My take is that it’s a combination of those things. What we see Sunday will guide us further but as of right now, I’d really like to see the team go outside for a more veteran NFL O-Line Coach.
