SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Pants on Fire” Edition

Good Friday to you Steelers’ Fans.

A week or two ago I titled a piece “The Lying Season” because that was when team general managers and coaches typically start to tell tales about who they like and who they don’t. With less than a week to go until the Draft, the Lying Season evolves into the “pants on fire” season because the lies come faster and heavier than at any other point. You’ll likely hear outrageous trade suggestions, bizarre infatuations with players and more bluffs than a game of Texas Hold’em. But… this weekend ahead of the Draft is also where trades start to come together. Will Arizona trade out of the top spot? Does someone trade up for a quarterback? What in the world will the Raiders do with those three first rounders? Those are a few of what could be many potential things fibbed about in the coming days. Oh and make sure you’re not reading too many of those fake twitter accounts.

Here’s our latest ‘min-cast’ on the Draft. On this edition of the Steel City Blitz Steelers Podcast presented by 26shirts.com/Pittsburgh we took a look at the Defensive Linemen in this year’s Draft.

Tweet of the Day… Good, entertaining podcasts will always get my attention. I highly suggest you check out the Thursday Night Tailgate especially if you miss football from the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. Chris and Bob have some amazing guests each week.

I was told yesterday that we are just some “random blog site.” I think that was an insult. Actually I’m really not sure… nor do I care.

Right now if I had to make a wager I’d guess four quarterbacks go in round one. Kyler Murray, Dwayne Haskins, Drew Lock and Daniel Jones are my bets. Personally, I think both Lock and Jones are not first round talents but this illustrates where we are today when it comes to getting a franchise QB. Teams are more than willing to take the risk. My sincere hope is that all of these guys go before the Steelers pick at 20. That would push some guys down the board for us.

Also on the Draft… I do not see a lot of first round talent in this Draft overall. I think there are a large number of guys who could easily fit in that 33 to 65 range and could very well end up being great NFL players but outside of that it’s a deep draft but not an overly talented draft.

Have a great weekend Steeler Nation!
