SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Other Sports” Edition

by Steeldad

Good Friday to you Steelers’ fans.

There is no ‘normal’ right now despite the fact that ultimately our normal will return. What I have found most interesting during this pandemic as it relates to sports and our Steelers is how we’ve discovered other sports to keep our attention. As NASCAR, Korean baseball and German soccer have restarted their seasons they have captured the attention of people who may otherwise not have cared. Suddenly I see Steelers’ fans and even players posting social media about teams and players in other sports and I think this is both natural and healthy. Last week’s match with Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Peyton Manning and Tom Brady drew the largest cable TV audience ever for a golf event. Perhaps much of that was due to our overall lack of sports to watch but the amount of athletes from other sports that tuned in was huge. As we wait for word on how the Steelers and NFL will proceed, it’s good to have other things to fill the void. I don’t know about you but when the Black and Gold start up all of my attention goes there!

Tweet of the Day… You’re damn right I had these babies!!

From the Ratbird’s Seat

Ravens’ Head Coach John Harbaugh spike yesterday about Lamar Jackson. He didn’t say anything we don’t know but it’s worth mentioning. “Those corners are going to be one-on-one and those safeties are going to be one-on-one against receivers, especially on some downfield throws,” said Harbaugh. “We got to make [the defense] pay for it. We absolutely have to make them pay.” What Harbaugh is referencing is that teams will continue to stack the box until Jackson can consistently make them pay. To this point, he hasn’t been able to do that. In other words, Harbaugh knows they only way they advance in the playoffs is on Jackson’s arm, not his legs. (Quote courtesy ESPN.com)

Steelers’ Ticket Restrictions

Ian wrote out a very important piece this past week about the Steelers and their approach to ticket availability in light of the current pandemic. As a season ticket holder and numbers guru, he has exactly the information you need if you’re concerned about getting tickets for a game this season.
