SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “OTA Replay” Edition

Good Tuesday to you Steelers’ Fans!

First, I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend. I also hope you took a moment to reflect on the reason we had Monday off.

The Steelers begin their second round of OTAs today and more than likely all eyes will be on the rookies. Of all of them, Western Michigan Offensive Tackle Chuks Okorafor maybe the most interesting. The Steelers are solid at both left and right tackle yet spent a third round pick on Okorafor. Taken that high, there’s little chance he doesn’t make the roster. Yet what about Jerald Hawkins? He’s seems to be very much in line to be the “new” Chris Hubbard. Are they planning to have Okorafor challenge him? I very much think the battle at Offensive Tackle is going to be well worth watching in Training Camp.

Have you heard Le’Veon Bell’s new track called “Target?” I haven’t either but I have read the lyrics and it’s clear Bell doesn’t like how he’s perceived. As I’ve said before, Bell has every right to believe he’s worth $17 million per season. Many however believe that to be over the top and some have let Bell know it in less than savory ways. That’s life in pro sports. Especially when you choose to air your grievances and feelings on social media or as is the case here, in music. If he’s looking for sympathy, he won’t find it here.

Tweet of the Day… Good stuff from Bob here.

If you missed it over the weekend, the Steelers may have accidentally revealed their throwback jerseys online this past weekend. If in fact this is it, I’m in 100% strictly because they incorporate the block numerals which I have advocated for going back many years now. (photo courtesy Twitter)

Saw some discussion this weekend about Landry Jones being the next “Nick Foles.” First of all, Foles is hardly the first backup to lead his team (or be instrumental in) leading a team to a title. Earl Morrall and Jeff Hostetler come to mind but the other reason is that Foles had already been a starter in the NFL. Jones cannot say the same thing. While Jones going on to lead the Steelers to number 7 sounds great a lot of other things have to happen first and I don’t see that personally.

Have a great Tuesday Steeler Nation!
