SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “One More Year” Edition

by Steeldad

Good Thursday to you Steelers’ Fans.

The Steelers announced yesterday that General Manager Kevin Colbert has agreed to a one-year contract extension. This will take him through the end of the 2021 NFL Draft. Since coming back to his native Pittsburgh from Detroit in 2000, Colbert has often been one of the most polarizing figures in the Steel City. Despite an average first round draft position of 21st, Colbert has been routinely able to put forward highly competitive teams. But Colbert has also been guilty of some pretty awful draft selections and free agent signings too. This is the nature of the beast when you’re an NFL GM. You hit on some and you miss on others. What is interesting here is that Colbert let things get this close to the end of his tenure. And now he is staying for just one more year… My gut tells me he will retire after next year’s draft considering this is just for one more year. We shall see.

The Podcast

Ian and I recorded episode 164 of the Steel City Blitz Steelers Podcast last night. We discussed Colbert, the Hall of Fame and then spent the bulk of our time breaking down the defense. It’s always fun and always informative. Check it out!

Tweet of the Day… The guys at Blitzburgh have a very straight-forward question. I voted no.

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT

I first want to thank Drew at DSGN Tree for helping us get our apparel store open last year. He and everyone there were awesome to work with and I’m glad to see their business doing well. I am VERY excited to announce our storefront has moved over to DC4L Custom Tees. They will have our shirts (and now hoodies!!) available at a lower price and they will be able to assist us in designing our unique stuff you know we love to come up with. Please check out the store!!

What A Show

Antonio Brown appeared this morning with Colin Dunlap in Pittsburgh on his 93.7 The Fan radio show. Many are upset with Dunlap even having him on but this is what radio hosts do, you want these interviews, you want people talking about them and that’s exactly what happened here. AB is as messed up today as he was three weeks ago. He was nice to the city and he was nice to Mike Tomlin but his negative obsession with JuJu Smith-Schuster has not subsided. It continues to be one of the saddest meltdowns in the history of sports.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
