Good Wednesday to you Steelers fans.
I’m not sure that Mike Tomlin could have been any clearer than he was yesterday. After recent comments from a former Steelers’ executive and a former USC quarterback that Tomlin may be headed to LA, he was rightly asked about it yesterday. For the assembled beat writers to have not addressed it would have been wrong. Someone needed to bring it up and so it was.
Mike Tomlin on rumors about going to USC: "That's a joke. I have one of the best jobs in all professional sport. Why would I have any interest in coaching college football? Never say never, but never. There's not a booster with a big enough blank check."

Like many of you, I’ve been around long enough to know that words mean little. Nick Saban once pledged his loyalty to the Miami Dolphins only to leave for Alabama soon thereafter. Am I suggesting Tomlin will do this? Hell no but it has to be said that anything is possible. As for his comments, he’s right. He coaches one of the best franchises in all of professional sports. I pondered why he could leave Monday night, but none of those reasons made sense. I would expect, that if the season doesn’t go well, these rumors will pop up from time to time. As we know, news doesn’t matter anymore, hyperbole and clicks mean a lot more.

Goodell
Here’s all you need to know about NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. His job is to protect the owners of the 32 teams. That’s it. The answers he gave yesterday at the Owner’s Meetings were awful. He is completely dismissing the complaints of many people regarding the Washington Football Team. This is no different than Spygate or Deflategate. Goodell will not release any more of the 650,000 emails just like he wouldn’t release the Spygate tapes which her of course destroyed. The transparency this man has claimed he would offer has been a joke.
Distraction
One of the reasons why Tomlin was so irritated with having discuss this stuff is that it also takes away from his focus on the Cleveland Browns. If you know anyone who coaches at a high level then you know that they can’t stand anything that gets in the way of preparation. Because Tomlin has been around awhile, I trust that he’ll be able to keep his focus and that of his team. Regardless, these things are still hard to ignore.
Ebron
Steelers’ Tight End Eric Ebron was pretty candid earlier this week about his struggles and his praise for rookie Pat Freiermuth. Ebron is often a target of Steelers’ fans and rightfully so for some crucial dropped passes. That said, I give him credit for his honesty. Something we don’t often see from players.
