Good Thursday to you Steelers fans.
As many of you know, Heinz Field is about to undergo a name change. Since the stadium opened in 2001, the name “Heinz” has been front and center as the home of the Pittsburgh Steelers. It really was a match made in heaven when you think about it. A tried and true staple of the Commonwealth with its two red ketchup bottles positioned perfectly for the call of Bill Hillgrove… “and the Steelers have entered the Heinz Red Zone!!” It’s going to be pretty damn hard to not just replace such a well-known name but also replacing the iconic bottles is sad too. As for who attaches their name we do not know. I would think both PNC and PPG would not be viable as they are already attached to baseball and hockey retrospectively. It wouldn’t be impossible for either but they seem unlikely. What about US Steel? UPMC? or maybe Primanti’s? OK, maybe not that one. The other thing to keep in mind is “flow.” If (blank) Field doesn’t sound good would they change it to “Stadium?” Regardless of what it is it will be an adjustment for all of us.
Mock Draft!
I cranked out my first Steelers mock draft of 2022 yesterday. I always attempt to do mine in terms of what I think the Steelers will do rather than what I myself would do. I also assumed a few things in terms what the team may do in free agency as well.

The GM Shuffle
Six different men have now interviewed for the soon to be vacant General Manager’s job. We can now add a seventh as newly named Panthers’ GM Samir Suleiman has become a candidate according to the Panther’s Wire. The graduate of James Madison University worked for the Steelers from 2013-2019 and previously worked for the Rams from 2000-2009. It was just a couple of weeks ago that he was named the new general manager of the Carolina Panthers. To say the Steelers are doing their due diligence here would be an understatement.
The Podcast
A new edition of the SCB Steelers Podcast presented by DEK Roofing Inc will hit this evening. We’ll discuss the NFL honors which take place tonight, the latest on the General Manager search, the latest coaching news and we start looking ahead to potential free agent targets as well.
Pickett Pressure
Something I’ve been wondering about lately is this… Are the Steelers under any pressure to draft Kenny Pickett simply because they passed on the great Dan Marino? For YEARS fans didn’t let the Rooney’s forget how great Marino was while the Steelers went through quarterbacks like some of us go through underwear. At the same time however, wouldn’t there be tremendous pressure on Pickett too? He could probably rob a bank in Pittsburgh right now and no one would care. Fans love him that much, but if he struggled at QB? Wow, it would be ugly and all of us know it.
