SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “More Leaks Than a Faucet” Edition

Good Tuesday to you Steelers Fans.

Thursday May 12th is the day the National Football League “officially” announces the schedule for the 2022 season. This of course is a huge day for fans who begin plotting their trips and saving their dollars to see their favorite team play. What I do not understand is why the NFL leaks so many of the games beforehand. All of us have probably dealt with a leaky faucet at some point in our lives but the NFL Schedule release is like a tidal wave. They start with some international games and then they start to leak some primetime games as well. Frankly, it makes the actual release almost anti-climactic. As I always do, I made my predictions on what the Steelers’ schedule will look like. My gut feeling is that without Ben Roethlisberger, the number of primetime games will dip slightly. While I wish the schedules were in tact when they were finally revealed I’ll get no such wish from the NFL who love to tease us.

GM Search

The Steelers and Art Rooney II will conduct a second round of interviews this week with three candidates to replace Kevin Colbert who leaves his current position on May 31st. The three candidates are Doug Whaley, John Spytek and Ryan Cowden. The major question is whether these three are the only finalists or are there others? Until we know it can be assumed these three are it which would be surprising in my opinion.

Tweet of the Day… For those that needed to know this.

What’s in a Number??

So as you look at those numbers our 2022 draft picks will be wearing, a couple of things jump out. Connor Heyward will wear 83 which of course belonged to the great Heath Miller. Many fans have been upset by this but they also forget the number has been issued before… Even 82 and 88 have been issued multiple times since John Stallworth and Lynn Swann retired. Point being you can’t retire or stop issuing EVERY number. Calvin Austin III choosing 19 so soon after the departure of JuJu Smith-Schuster is interesting but my biggest question here is George Pickens choosing 14. That number hasn’t had a ton of success in Pittsburgh and will go down as a number of infamy. Neil O’Donnell and Limas Sweed come to mind.

Saying Goodbye

I think any chance that the Steelers would bring back Joe Haden seems even less likely now. Haden posted a video of his house on Instagram yesterday in which there were moving boxes scattered throughout the otherwise empty home. Is it possible they bring him back? Yes, that’s always a possibility but it sure looks like Haden’s time is officially done with the Steelers and I wish him well.
