SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Missing in Action” Edition

Good Friday to you Steelers’ Fans!

I have become convinced that National Football League Commissioner Roger Goodell was told by the owners to stay in his office, don’t go near a TV camera and for God’s sake don’t do any interviews. We are now five plus days out from one of the most egregious non-calls in the history of the NFL postseason and the head of the league has said nothing. In fact no one from the NFL has said a word other than Al Riveron who told Saints’ Coach Sean Payton “We messed up.” Yesterday, New Orleans’ tight end Ben Watson, who is expected to retire, posted a wonderful piece on the issue. He did it with grace and the understanding that these things happen but also called out Goodell for not saying a word. No apology, no general comment, nothing. At some point Saints’ players and fans will have to move on. Easy to say I know, but they will. Until the ‘missing in action’ Commissioner makes a statement however I think they are well within their rights to keep screaming.

We had a tremendous episode of the Steel City Blitz Podcast 117 presented by 26shirts.com/Pittsburgh last night. Steelers’ Super Fan Rick Holman joined us to detail his amazing streak of games and his possible entry into the Ford Fan Hall of Fame. Ben and I also discussed the latest on Antonio Brown and Ben Roethlisberger.

Tweet of the Day… Ben Watson’s post in case you missed it.

We know that AB isn’t at the Pro Bowl because he’s “injured.” I find it pretty incredible the NFL can actually find enough guys to play in this glorified scrimmage because you know and I know AB isn’t the only one who has just flat-out skipped the event.

Do not pay any attention to the reports that the Steelers aren’t getting offers for Antonio Brown. They are getting calls but the real discussions will not happen until the NFL Combine begins next month. This is when General Managers and other front office personnel will get together and have much more in-depth conversations. I am NOT saying AB WILL be traded. I am only stating that the real talk about a trade has yet to happen.

Profootballtalk.com is reporting that Mike Tomlin has told players that he will only tolerate AB as long as he’s productive. This comes from an ex-Steeler who was not identified. I’m not saying this isn’t true, but it’s one more thing to pile on to an already crappy offseason.

Have a great weekend Steeler Nation!
