SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Meaningless” Edition

Good Friday to you Steelers’ Fans.

With the victory last night by the Baltimore Ravens, they have wrapped up the AFC North for the second straight season. Losses by New England and Kansas City this weekend would give the Ravens home-field advantage in the AFC Playoffs. If those things don’t happen, the Ravens would need to beat Cleveland in Week 16 and if that occurs it would render our week 17 match-up meaningless. I am not one who looks ahead too often. I take it game by game and focus on the task before us. That said, I really would rather Baltimore had something to play for in week 17. If they don’t then they have only to focus on beating the Steelers and perhaps knocking us out of the postseason depending on the next two weeks. I always hate rivalry games where one team has little to play for outside the rivalry and the other is playing for its’ life. As I said, let’s focus on the Bills and Jets first before worrying about the Ravens but I admit that it’s a bit hard to not consider what week 17 may bring.

From the Training Room

STEELERS

WR JuJu Smith-Schuster (Knee) – Limited
LB Mark Barron (NIR) – Full
RB James Conner (Shoulder) – Full
RB Jaylen Samuels (Groin) – Full
C Maurkice Pouncey (NIR) – Full
OG David Decastro (NIR) – Full
OT Alejandro Villanueva (NIR) – Full
TE Vance McDonald (Concussion) – Limited
OG Ramon Foster (NIR) – DNP
WR Johnny Holton (Illness) – DNP

BILLS
LB Lorenzo Alexander (Rest) – DNP
RB Frank Gore (Illness) – DNP
DE Jerry Hughes (Rest) – DNP
DT Corey Liuget (Knee) – Limited
OT Ty Nsekhe (Ankle) – DNP
DT Jordan Phillips (Knee) – Limited

NOTES: JuJu has gone from “looking good for him Sunday” to “he may not play at all.” I’m not real sure what’s going on but it sounds like he had a setback with his knee… McDonald was limited again and is still in concussion protocol… Samuels being a full participant is a positive step… Overall, the Bills are very healthy.

Tweet of the Day… It’s Friday the 13th!

Congrats!

You do realize that there is nothing contractual that compels any NFL player to go out in society and do positive things right? When Cam Heyward or Maurkice Pouncey or Ben Roethlisberger does something to support any part of society it is done on their own. This doesn’t mean they aren’t solicited by community groups or organizations but it is still entirely up to them. This week Pouncey was named the Steelers’ representative for the NFL’s Walter Payton Many of the Year Award. It is well-deserved.

WPIAL News

As many of you know Ian has been giving fans of Western PA High School Football everything they could possibly want and this season proved what I’ve been telling you. His coverage is THE best in Western PA. The sheer volume of views and clicks this year has grown astronomically. Look for much more next fall!

Something to Consider

Should Vance McDonald not be able to go Sunday night, does that mean that Zach Gentry may finally get a helmet? I was not a fan of his drafting simply because I believe with great confidence that they could have signed him as an undrafted free agent. That ship has now sailed because it is what it is… If Gentry plays I hope they use his 6’8″ frame in the red zone. While he’s not a very good blocker he does possess some ability so use it!

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
