SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Longer Road” Edition

Good Monday to you Steelers’ fans.

At 2-4 the Pittsburgh Steelers already faced a long road towards getting into the postseason but after yesterday the road is now longer. Baltimore improved to 5-2 with an impressive win at Seattle. Buffalo moved to 5-1 by beating Miami while the Colts, Titans and Jaguars all won too. The Ravens’ win is a statement of sorts. Few teams go into Seattle and win. Fewer do it the way they did it. Make no mistake, the season has many twists and turns left to take but the Steelers (currently 11th in the AFC) will need to win far more than they lose and they’ll need some help along the way.

No Pushovers

If any of us believe for one second that Miami will come into the Steel City next week and just lay down I can tell you that isn’t true. I watched the Dolphins yesterday and they gave a good Buffalo team everything they could handle before losing. Do I expect a Steelers’ victory? Of course I do but it isn’t going to be a pushover.

Tweet of the Day… This is true. No matter how good a single player is, what they accomplish happens with others around them.

It’s in the Lines

If you look across the standings in the NFL today and more importantly at the top teams you’ll notice one constant. These teams have either really good offensive lines or defensive lines or in some cases, both. From San Francisco to Indianapolis if you’re offensive line protects and creates running room then you’re going to be successful. Likewise, if the defensive line shuts down the run and gets pressure without too much assistance from the blitz then success is coming your way. The Steelers’ O-Line needs to dominate more consistently. The defensive line has it tougher. Replacing Stephon Tuitt is not going to be easy.

Chickillo’s Arrest

As I try to do with any player, I want to hear the whole story before I make any judgments. Based on what I’ve gathered there will definitely be two sides to this story so I’m going to be cautious. Anthony Chickillo was cited for criminal mischief and simple assault which are both misdemeanors. He was also arraigned on a harassment charge as well. He would eventually post the $10,000 bond. This took place at the Nemacolin Resort. If these things prove to be true in that he assaulted his girlfriend, then I do not see him being around much longer.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
