SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The ‘It Could Be Worse’ Edition

Good Friday to you Steelers fans.

There’s no question the Pittsburgh Steelers are not a good football team right now. From offensive woes to injuries, there’s a lot to be concerned about. However, if you watched last night’s Thursday Night Football game between the Denver Broncos and Indianapolis Colts then you may have come away not feeling quite so bad about the Black and Gold. The game ended 12-9 in favor of Indy who won in overtime on a field goal. The larger point of mentioning this debacle is that many Steelers fans were clamoring for Russell Wilson. Oh you remember don’t you? They wanted to trade for Wilson who would have been the natural bridge from Ben Roethlisberger thereby keeping the team competitive.  How do you feel about that now? The guy looks like a complete shell of himself and the Broncos are on the hook for $250 million and gave up a lot to get him. I have a lot of issues with the Steelers’ front office at times but I also trust them with decisions like these. Wilson may get things turned around but right now he doesn’t look good.

Odds

The Steelers head north as 14-point underdogs. They have not seen such a number since the 1970’s. The closest they have come to this was Super Bowl XXX when they lost to Dallas 27-17. The spread at kickoff was -13.5. I think the Steelers cover this week…

Running QBs

The Steelers in recent years have done a solid job of containing athletic quarterbacks like Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson. This week, they get Allen again and I think he will find more success this week. With no T.J. Watt, that’s going to put more pressure on the ‘contain’ guys. Considering how open we’ve left the middle of the field this year too, I can see Allen taking advantage of that with both his arm and legs.
