SCB Steelers’ Quick Hitters: The “Idle Hands” Edition

Good Friday to You Steelers’ Fans!

So as most of you know the Steelers don’t play this weekend. Many of the players have been on social media displaying exactly what they are doing to enjoy the downtime. From Anthony Chickillo enjoying a Yeungling in Florida to Maurkice Pouncey spending time with his daughter, each guy is finding useful ways to spend the time off. But what about us? As they say “the devil makes work for idle hands.” No such concern here because I’ll still be watching plenty of football this weekend but with my daughter home from college I’ll enjoy some time with her too. In other words, the bye week comes at a great time for me. Hopefully you find a good use for it too!

The Denver Broncos suddenly don’t look like a pushover when the Steelers travel there later this season. They beat Arizona 45-10 last night in the desert. I will say this however; the Cardinals are not very good especially on offense where they turned it over five times.

Tweet of the Day… Charlie Batch continues to do great things in Pittsburgh!

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell came out of hiding this week just long enough to speak at the recent Owners’ Meetings. He claims there’s “never been a better time to be a fan of the NFL.” Is he talking about actual fans of the football or the ones who watch strictly for fantasy football? Those seem to be the ones he’s catering to these days.

I think James Washington will be fine. Lots of discussion about his limited snaps and lack of targets but other rookie receivers have been here before and have gone on to pretty good careers. I think there’s one in his locker room…

James Conner revealed this week that he regularly gets positive text messages from Le’Veon Bell. I don’t doubt this at all. I don’t think Bell is the second coming of Satan, I just think he’s handled his time away really poorly.

The NFL made a great move a few years ago when they pushed the trade deadline back. I expect there to be some movement this year. Oakland, Buffalo, Indianapolis are AFC teams I can see making some moves. As for the Steelers? Take Patrick Peterson off the board. The Cardinals said yesterday they aren’t trading him.

Enjoy the low-stress weekend Steeler Nation!
