SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Good Deal for Dobbs” Edition

Good Tuesday to you Steelers’ Fans.

Although I expected it to happen a week or two ago, the Steelers traded Josh Dobbs to Jacksonville for a fifth round pick in next year’s Draft yesterday. I know some fans don’t consider this a good deal because Dobbs was originally a fourth round pick but… Dobbs was a third string quarterback. Most teams wouldn’t trade for a third-stringer so actually getting a fifth rounder is pretty good. I was never a fan of the drafting of Dobbs. The team had too many needs in the secondary and at linebacker for me to be excited about a guy I never really saw as anything more than a backup. That isn’t the fault of Josh Dobbs though. He’s a good guy in the locker room and in the community and I wish him well in Jacksonville.

Roster Moves

With Dobbs off to Florida, I was hopeful of two things. First, I was hoping that we’d see Tuzar Skipper called back to take his place on the roster. Secondly, I was hoping we would bring Devlin Hodges back to the practice squad to be the number three quarterback. One of these things happened. Hodges is indeed coming back but Skipper is off to the New York Giants and I have to tell you, I’m concerned. I’m concerned that he’s going to become a pretty darn good player. It wouldn’t be the first time we’ve seen this happen but it sure wouldn’t be a good look for a Steelers’ organization already littered with questions about personnel decisions.

Tweet of the Day… This is terrific news for a good young man who has been fighting.

Getting Past It

I saw a lot of talk yesterday about whether or not fans were “over” the loss from Sunday night. I believe that loss was the worst of all of them in Foxborough. I say that because even when the Steelers gave up 55 they at least battled and put points on the board. Sunday night was a beating in all three phases of the game. But the lack of fight and the lack any sort of desire or drive is what troubles me the most. It was almost as if the Steelers knew their House of Horrors awaited them and instead of battling they gave into it.

On the Injury Front

Joe Haden has a sprain of his AC joint and could miss a couple of weeks. This is a severe blow for a secondary already reeling from Sunday… JuJu Smith-Schuster has x-rays on his foot but it was negative. He should be available Sunday… Both Maurkice Pouncey and T.J. Watt had injuries as well. I expect Coach Tomlin to update us in today’s press conference…. Sean Davis’ ankle will also be of interest to all of us.

My Last Comment on AB

There is no one that will convince me that this move to New England was not contrived. His contract details, released this morning, convince me even more. No team would give a player who has whined his way out of two organizations anything more than a veteran minimum and a ‘promise’ to give him a bigger deal in a year if he behaves. Suddenly the Pats come along and offer up nearly $20 million? For too long New England has been playing a game the other 31 franchises have been unable to join.

Tomlin Presser – Players Day Off

Today will likely be a festival of cliches as Tomlin gives his weekly press conference at Noon. It is my hope that some of the beat writers take him to task but I understand why they won’t. It’s also a day off for players as Tuesday usually is with the Steelers.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
