SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “From Indy” Edition

Good Thursday to you Steelers fans.

The players have yet to take the field in Indianapolis for the NFL Combine and already Steelers fans are running wild with speculation. All that took place today were interviews but when your number one concern is quarterbacks and they’re on full display then you know there will be added attention. We’re fortunate to have our Draft guy Derrick (follow him on Twitter @steelers_DB) on hand for everything. Below are some of his tweets from yesterday.

Tuitt

Kevin Colbert didn’t say anything new regarding the return of Stephon Tuitt but sure felt like he did. Cam Heyward was on the Pat McAfee Show and said he’s excited to have (Tyson) Alualu and Tuitt back. Naturally fans are convinced that Tuitt is indeed going to play in 2022. As I’ve said several times recently, I will believe it when I see it in terms of him being back on the field in 2022.

Quarterbacks

I am of the opinion that the QBs all handled themselves well yesterday. Matt Corral came off very authentic and was honest. Malik Willis discussed his encounters with the Steelers and was positive in those regards. Willis also announced he would be throwing but would not be doing the running or agility drills.  Kenny Pickett had to address the “hand size” issue and that’s something that will follow him through the entire process.

Loss of Picks?

The NFL reminded all 32 teams that they could lose draft picks if they ask offensive or inappropriate questions of prospects during any of the interview processes. This has been an issue at Combines in the past and whenever it comes up it typically revolves around race and stereotypes.

Gut Feelings…

With a couple of weeks now until the beginning of the new league year here are some of my ‘gut feelings’ regarding several things. I don’t know how the team keeps Zach Banner but at the same time, do we even know what he can do? He’s played all of one half of meaningful football… The Steelers love to build from within but I believe they will go the free agent route at cornerback and offensive line… I still don’t think it’s wise to draft any of these quarterbacks.
