SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Draft Day Drag” Edition

by Steeldad

Good Thursday to you Steelers fans and Happy Draft Day!

Is it just me or has it taken an extraordinarily long time to get here? Maybe it’s the pandemic, I don’t know but I’m glad it is finally here. It’s been an unusual pre-draft process to be sure. Teams have been unable to do their own medical exams, meetings have largely been over ‘Zoom,’ and the Combine as we know it really didn’t exist. With those thoughts in mind, we really should expect the unexpected. Throwing out everything you know about the “norms” of the Steelers’ Draft process is probably a good idea. The Draft in many ways follows those ideas anyhow but this year? It’s a really good bet to expect some chaos. Regardless… I’m thrilled the drag is over, it’s Draft Weekend!

Final Mocking and Other Draft Things

As a rule I hate mock drafts but I also understand their importance from a fan viewpoint. Yesterday, I released my Final Mock Draft for 2021 and quite frankly if I get one correct each year then I’m pretty happy. .. Ian put together his article on the guys we are most likely to select and as always it’s excellent content.

Tweet of the Day… This is so damn spot on!

The Podcast

Coming up tonight we are planning to be recording when the Steelers go on the clock. Of course with the Draft starting at 8 this could very well happen at the perfect time for us as we usually record at 10pm ET. If the team trades back (please) then we should be just fine. If the team trades up, then who the hell knows? Either way we’ll have an excellent show this evening! It’s the SCB Steelers Podcast presented by DEK Roofing Inc.

Draft Predictions

As is usually the case, the quarterbacks are the hot topics heading into tonight. One and two appear to be set in stone and then the Niners are on the clock at three. I think they’ll stick with Mac Jones there. Atlanta is going to have a mess of offers to move down and eventually they will so someone can take Justin Fields. My guess is the Bears who will swing for the fences once again after striking out on Mitchell Trubisky. Trey Lance will slide a bit but I think he still goes in the top 12. I will not be surprised to see the top ten be entirely offensive players. The first defender is likely to be Patrick Surtain II. There are always guys who slide out of the first and guys who slide in. That will be a big story tomorrow. Also look for a team like Detroit to trade down. They need a lot of picks to change that roster.

Happy/Sad

Landon Dickerson to the Steelers at 24 will make me sad. It’s a huge area of need but he’s a huge risk with his injury history… Najee Harris or Javonte Williams at 24 will make me happy… Teven Jenkins or Christian Darrisaw would make me really happy at 24… Creed Humphrey at 24 would make me happy… Tyson Campbell at 24 would make me sad… Jaylen Mayfield at 24 would make me sad… Trading down would make me very happy… Drafting a mid-round quarterback will make me insane!!
