SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Covid Hits Home” Edition

by Steeldad

Good Tuesday to you Steelers fans.

If any of us thought the Pittsburgh Steelers would be immune from getting anyone on their Covid-19 list then surely we were mistaken. As the pandemic explodes nationwide, the virus finally came home to roost. Shortly after Steelers’ Public Relations Man Burt Lauten announced there was a player with a positive test, several outlets reported that Vance McDonald was that player. He missed practice on Friday with “cold-like” symptoms and tested negative for Covid. He made the trip and played about 20 snaps in the win over Dallas before today’s positive result was revealed. Contact tracing is now underway and I’ll be real honest; I’m worried about this. He and Ben Roethlisberger are very close. It’s one thing to lose a backup tight end for a game but it’s a whole other to lose your QB. I expect to hear more from Mike Tomlin and the team as the day moves forward.

Speaking of That…

Today is the players’ traditional day off while Coach Tomlin will give his weekly press conference at Noon Eastern. It would be great to hear that both Mike Hilton and Derek Watt were ready for action wouldn’t it?

Tweet of the Day… Any reference to Caddyshack will always have a home here.

No No JuJu

Following his touchdown reception on Sunday, JuJu Smith-Schuster immediately made his way to the center of the field and there were a few Cowboys who weren’t having it. They immediately knew that JuJu was going to do his own version of Terrell Owens’ famous dash to the star to celebrate his score. This is probably going to be an unpopular opinion but JuJu was 100% in the wrong here and those Dallas players who attempted to stop him had every damn right. You know and I know if a player tried to do the same thing in Heinz Field we’d want every player on the field preventing him from doing so. For a guy who has been so creative and humorous at TD celebrations this was a poor choice.

Streaking.

Say whatever you want about Mike Tomlin but never having a losing season in professional football is pretty damn impressive. This is his 14th straight season of 8-8 or better. That’s doing something right people. Not to be outdone is Ben Roethlisberger who now has 17 seasons of winning football. We need to be more appreciative of what he’s been able to do. There are few quarterbacks who can say such a thing.
