SCB Steelers Quick Hitters: The “Attention Needed” Edition

by Steeldad

Good Friday to you Steelers’ fans.

Ever since James Harrison’s departure and ultimate decision to sign with the hated Patriots, Steelers’ fans have had a very odd relationship with the former Defensive MVP. We will always love the guy; he authored some of the greatest memories of all-time for the Black and Gold. But since his playing days ended, it seems his need for attention often gets the best of him. Deebo has now garnered the attention he desires once again by suggesting that Mike Tomlin “gave home an envelope” following the hit on Cleveland’s Mohamed Massaquoi. This suggests that Tomlin enables some form of bounty program. I’m not going to sit here and say this “never happened.” Ive learned anything is possible but I have a hard time with this for two reasons. First, Tomlin doesn’t strike me as someone who would do something like this. It would strike me as very shocking of this proved accurate. But secondly and most importantly, there is no way in this world that Dan Rooney would have EVER tolerated such a thing from his organization. I honestly believe that if something like this were taking place, Mr. Rooney would have immediately relieved those involved of their duties. If you’d like a third option here? Why in the hell would anyone have a bounty on a number three WR from Cleveland? If this so called bounty was about knocking any player out of the game then the payout would have been what? Five dollars and a Snickers bar? Look, I’ve lived long enough to know you never say “never.” But I believe this is nothing more than Harrison creating news and attention for himself. Might I also add this was on a Barstool Podcast? Take that however you choose to.

[UPDATE]: Harrison posted to his Instagram earlier today that this was NOT about a bounty. He did not reveal the contents of the envelope but was quite adamant it wasn’t a bounty. I expect we’ll hear from Mike Tomlin at some point regarding this.

ICYMI…

We recorded a really fun episode of the Steel City Blitz Steelers Podcast presented by DEK Roofing Inc Wednesday night. We talked about the Steelers’ schedule but it evolved into discussions about rival fans. Don’t miss it.

Preseason Thoughts

As all of you know the Steelers will play in the Hall of Fame Game against Dallas. That means that they will play five preseason games in 2020. I’m very interested to see how Tomlin uses this extra game. Common sense suggests that it will provide Mason Rudolph, Devlin Hodges and Paxton Lynch more reps and that’s likely what will happen. I admit however that I’m curious to see if Ben Roethlisberger gets more preseason reps than usual. He hasn’t started seasons all that well in recent years and after missing the majority of last season will Tomlin give him a few more in-game reps? I highly doubt it but I remain curious. As for the rest of the team, the extra game should provide ample time to get rookies and free agent signees chances to show what they can do.

Have a great weekend Steeler Nation!
