Happy hump Day Steelers’ Fans!

In case you missed it, the Steelers were pretty busy on Tuesday. Not only did Exclusive Rights Free Agent Anthony Chickillo sign to stay in Pittsburgh, the team also signed several more players as well. The most intriguing of the group has to be the son of Steelers’ Hall of Famer Mel Blount. Akil Blount played his college ball at Florida A&M and then signed with the Miami Dolphins as an undrafted free agent. He was cut at the end of training camp and didn’t play anywhere during the season. He’s a long shot and then some to make the team but should be a cool story to follow.

Blount wasn’t the only son of a Hall of Famer to be signed though. Mike Matthews, son of Bruce Matthews, was also signed. It should come as no surprise that he’s also a lineman like his father.

The other guys signed were center Kyle Friend, RB Trey Williams, CB Devonte Johnson and LB Jason Fanaika. Friend will be an interesting guy to watch. While he is relatively short at just over six feet tall, he’s an absolute tree trunk with tremendous power. He has long odds but could make things curious to watch.

I know I’m not alone in my thinking… The Steelers need serious return help on Special Teams.

Tweet of the Day… Anthony Chickillo will be at the movies this weekend!

Lots of speculation yesterday with the Rosenhaus Brothers in Pittsburgh. Because they represent Antonio Brown, it was thought they must be there to start discussing a new deal for AB. That could be true, but they also represent Chickillo who signed his deal yesterday.

Today is the first day the Steelers can declare a franchise or transition player. They have until March 1st to declare players to one of these tags. This is obviously big for the Steelers since it is widely believed they will use the franchise tag on Le’Veon Bell.

Here are all of the important dates for the 2017 season.

Have a great day Steeler Nation!
