SCB Steelers Quick Hitters for October 7th, 2014

by Steeldad

As is the norm, the Steelers’ players are off today. Mike Tomlin’s weekly press conference will be held at Noon Eastern.

-Ben Roethlisberger hit 11 different receivers Sunday.

-I’m glad more wasn’t made of Roethlisberger’s decision to get Antonio Brown his fifth reception Sunday. As you know, Brown had a streak of 20 straight games with at least five receptions and 50 yards in a game. On the Steelers final drive he had just four but Roethlisberger got the approval of Mike Tomlin to get an easy reception to Brown. I’m not usually crazy about such things especially in a game where a touchdown and two-point conversion could tie the game but Roethlisberger went about it the right way.

-Let’s be honest, if Peyton Manning or Tom Brady had done this there would be monuments erected in their honor.

-The Special Teams was relatively brutal Sunday. Two straight offsides on successive kickoffs was one thing but special teams’ captain Rob Golden was penalized twice after being flagged once last week. This needs to be addressed immediately.

-I continue to be confused by the lack of snaps seen by Lance Moore. He obviously didn’t help himself when after catching his first pass he spiked the ball which resulted in a delay of game penalty. He then made mistake number two by giving it back to Tomlin who clearly wasn’t happy with him. I can’t say I blame Moore though. He signed with the Steelers so he could play not ride the pine and that has to be frustrating.

-I do not expect the Browns to roll over for the Steelers on Sunday. They nearly made an incredible comeback in week one and then made a historic comeback Sunday in Tennessee. This will not be the walkover Steelers’ fans have come to expect against the Browns.

-The Steelers have now won three-straight games in Jacksonville.

-Roethlisberger earned a passer rating of 100 or better on Sunday for the 60th time in his career.

-Antonio Brown grabbed a reception in his 61st straight game and he passed Mike Wallace to move into ninth place on the Steelers All-Time Receiving Yards list.
