SCB Steelers Quick Hitters for October 16th, 2014

The Steelers will practice today from 1-3pm Eastern.

-Really enjoyed the podcast with Dejan Kovacevic and Mark Madden. I don’t always agree with Madden but I thought he and Kovacevic played very well off of each other.

-Look for Brice McCain to get more snaps than even Cortez Allen on Monday night.

-We already know that Hines Ward called the Steelers “soft” following their loss to Cleveland but then last night he took it further and blamed much of the offense’s problems on Ben Roethlisberger rather than Todd Haley. I’ve always appreciated Hines and the way he played but I think this is merely a case of him being a talking head trying to get attention because he couldn’t be more wrong.

-One of the problems inside the red zone is that there just isn’t a true target for Roethlisberger to rely on. Heath Miller is a one move guy. If he isn’t open there, then chances are he won’t be. Both Antonio Brown and Markus Wheaton are not what we’d call “big targets” which means Roethlisberger needs to be extremely accurate. The loss of Jerricho Cotchery becomes more glaring all of the time as he was very good at getting open in the red zone.

-Antonio Brown needs 81 yards to move into fourth pace on the Steelers All-Time Punt Return Yardage list. He would surpass Louis Lipps.

-Le’Veon Bell needs just 62 yards to pass Barry Foster for the most yards from scrimmage through the first seven games of a season.

-Here are some interesting Monday Night Football records for the Steelers… Most yards passing, Mark Malone 374 in 1985… Most yards rushing, Rashard Mendenhall 155 in 2009… Most yards receiving, Plaxico Burress  155 (2001) and John Stallworth (1985)… Most passing touchdowns, Ben Roethlisberger 5 in 2007… Most sacks, James Harrison 3.5 in 2007.

-The Steelers career record at home on Monday Night is 24-5 and they are 7-0 all-time on MNF in Heinz Field.

-Ben Roethlisberger has a 4-0 career record at home on MNF and has a career passer rating in those games of 104.8.

-The last time the Steelers shut out an opponent on MNF was the infamous 3-0 win over Miami where this happened.

-If the Steelers don’t play well on Monday night and get beat, I can’t even imagine the outrage on social media.
