SCB Steelers Quick Hitters for November 5th, 2014

by Steeldad

Election Day is over. Please return to you previously scheduled hatred of the government.

-The Steelers are back on the practice field today. They’ll go from 115-315pm Eastern today.

-NY Jets Head Coach Rex Ryan will speak to the Pittsburgh media today at 11:10am Eastern.

-As we expected, both Ryan Shazier and Troy Polamalu are out this week with injuries.

-Mike Tomlin is now 59-10 all-time when his team has a lead at halftime.

-Brice McCain’s fumble recovery was the first of his career.

-The Steelers are 17-4 all-time against the Jets.

-Pittsburgh has won two straight in the series and is 10-3 all-time in New York.

-Series Highs: Passing PIT Ben Roethlisberger 275 yards (2012), NYJ Ken O’Brien 226 yards (1989)… Rushing PIT Barry Foster 190 yards (1992), NYJ Curtis Martin 174 yards (2003)… Receiving PIT Jeff Graham 146 yards (1992), NYJ Lam Jones 146 yards (1983)

-Big Ben needs 280 yards passing to reach 3,000 yards for the season. This would be his ninth season in reaching the feat.

-James Harrison needs one more sack to reach 70 all-time for the Steelers.

-The Jets rank 8th overall in total defense, 19th against the pass and 8th against the run. The front seven is still very good but the secondary is bad and I believe out receivers should be able to get open if the offensive line can give Ben time to throw.

-Offensively, the Jets are 14th in total offense, 30th in passing and 2nd in rushing. With the Steelers ranking 14th in rushing defense, I believe you’ll see Dick LeBeau load the box and force the Jets to throw the ball.

-In case you missed this…. James Harrison is really strong. Pouncey weighs about 303lbs by the way.

-Great piece from Chris on the patchwork secondary.
