Home Steelers 2015 Season SCB Steelers Quick Hitters for 1/5/16

SCB Steelers Quick Hitters for 1/5/16

by Steeldad

Even though it’s the postseason, the Steelers’ players are still afforded a day off and as per usual that day is today.

Steelers’ Head Coach Mike Tomlin will hold his press conference today at Noon ET at steelers.com.

When I started this site the one thing I wanted was to be honest and I hope I and the rest of the writers have lived up to that. Being honest however isn’t always popular with Steelers’ fans and that’s fine. We want fans who can remove the black and gold glasses once in awhile and that’s why I wrote what I did regarding all the hype about the Steelers being the “team to beat in the AFC Playoffs.” I call it like I see it, what can I say?

DeAngelo Williams’ MRI was negative on Monday and he’ll be listed as day-to-day. My guess is that he won’t practice on Wednesday but to me the big day is Thursday. If he practices fully I think he’ll be good to go for Saturday night. My feeling is that if he can give the Steelers enough in terms of pass blocking and a few effective runs then that could be enough to keep the Bengals’ D at bay.

As I said Sunday after the game, Darrius Heyward-Bey is a nice guy to fall back on at receiver but Martavis Bryant needs to get his poop in a pile if this offense is going to click on all cylinders. Bryant has two receptions for six yards on six targets the last two weeks. That was after a 10 reception performance against Denver.

Tweet of the Day… How can you not love this?

I wrote last week that Art Rooney II may have a tough decision to make in regards to Todd Haley and as usual, some people only read the headline. My point was that Haley is likely to get a few interviews for head coaching openings and ARII’s decision could come down to how much he will want to offer Haley to stay on as offensive coordinator. While another Steelers’ blog stated they don’t believe Haley will get any looks, the Dolphins have already confirmed they’d like to interview him.

The similarities between this potential playoff run and the one that led to the Steelers’ fifth title are hard to dismiss. Both started in Cincinnati and could both involve Peyton Manning in the divisional round. One major difference however is that this Steelers’ defense is not nearly as good as that one was.
