SCB Steelers Quick Hitters for 3/25/16

TGIF Steeler Nation…

Former Steelers’ Offensive Coordinator Bruce Arians had no problem opening his mouth during the Owners’ Meetings this week. His first major comment was a shot at his former employer. Arians was asked about the Steelers leaning on Ben Roethlisberger more and his reply was this, “They are opening it up and not getting fired for it.” That’s pretty funny actually and he went on to say very nice things about the Steelers and Dan Rooney as well.

Arians’ other comment has gotten a lot more play nationally. “Parents who won’t let their kids play football are fools,” he said. I probably wouldn’t have gone there but I don’t disagree to an extent. Many parents are keeping their children out of the game simply out of fear and without educating themselves. I’m the last person to tell anyone how to parent, but in my opinion, there is no better game in the world that teaches life skills the way football does and it can be done safely too with proper coaching.

Tweet of the Day…. From our friends at Big Ben’s website. This is pretty cool.

The Steelers met with former New York Giants’ guard Geoff Schwartz yesterday. He’s played with Carolina, Kansas City and the NYG in six NFL seasons. Only one time in those six years did he start all 16 games. He would be a solid veteran reserve who would likely be a swing guard or even tackle in an emergency since he has played the position in the pros.

The Steelers’ contingent in Houston yesterday was led by Mike Tomlin and Kevin Colbert. They were there to see Houston cornerback William Jackson III who has been having a great pre-draft season. He was terrific at the combine and had another solid day in his pro day. Colbert and Tomlin also had dinner with him the night before. He’s my favorite CB in this draft in terms of a guy who fits the Steelers but whether or not he’s still there at 25 is another question entirely.

Have a great weekend and great Easter as well Steeler Nation!
