Happy Hump Day Steeler Nation!
If you’re old enough like I am to recall the days before free agency became what it is today then you remember the days when guys stuck with their original team unless they traded or cut. In many ways, that made it easier to claim guys were loyal to the team and the fans. Let’s be real; football is a short life and if guys can make more money playing elsewhere we can’t blame them for that. Still, after seeing Kelvin Beachum and Steve McLendon go on to other teams, it isn’t easy. We love our Steelers and it’s tough to see the ones we really enjoy rooting for leave but such is the nature of the beast.
If you aren’t already on board, then you need to be. The traditional 3-4 defense we’ve become used to in Pittsburgh is evolving. The decision to let McLendon go is part of that. The defense was in the base 3-4 defense last season only about 25% of the time which means the need for a true nose tackle has diminished. I believe the Steelers will sign another D-Lineman here in free agency and will add another in the draft.
If you had any doubt as to why many, including myself, didn’t want Mike Wallace back in Pittsburgh then look no further than his comments yesterday after signing a two-year deal with the Ravens. “I need a good QB,” he told reporters. It’s all about Mike as usual.

Sean Spence is visiting with the Titans and former defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau today. If I was a betting man I’d say this is where Spence ends up.
I’ll say this many more times before the start of the season but keep an eye on Steelers’ wide receiver Eli Rogers. He could be an excellent slot WR and can be a return guy if needed. He was having a good preseason before getting hurt in 2015.
Have you seen Big Ben’s beard? I think he’s trying to give Da Beard a run for his money!
Have a great Wednesday Steeler Nation!
