SCB Steelers Quick Hitters for 12/30/15

by Steeldad

The Steelers will practice today from 115-315pm today.

Mike Tomlin spoke yesterday at his presser about getting past this loss to the Ravens. This is something he had to say and he’s obviously right about it but let me say this; if the players feel half as deflated as I do then Tomlin has some serious work to do.

Speaking of Tomlin there has been a ton of social media chatter about his job status. I often wonder what things would have been like during the Noll and Cowher Eras had social media been around.

Tomlin part III… This team has issues. From the potential  five-year span of playoff win-less years to the struggles against lesser opponents, Tomlin is part of the problem but he isn’t the entire problem. Bad drafts and poor personnel decisions can’t all be attributed to him, but poor game management can. I think the narrative will be very intriguing if this team loses on Sunday.

Tweet of the Day… This comes from friend Craig Scott and former Steeler Charlie Batch and sums up things quite well. Craig asked Charlie if he believes there should be any changes to the staff if the team doesn’t make the playoffs.

I want to try and add some perspective to Ben Roethlisberger’s poor performance on Sunday. First, I have been and always will be a supporter of Big Ben but when he plays poorly I’ll say so. He didn’t play well on Sunday and I don’t know why but as my colleague Ben pointed out this week, he has struggled on the road so maybe this wasn’t a surprise. Bottom line is that saying he didn’t play well doesn’t mean you are suddenly not a “Ben guy.”

I think it’s safe to say our outside linebackers this season have failed in the pass rush area overall. The majority of their sacks have come when the game is no longer in doubt. The only guy we can give a pass to is rookie Bud Dupree but even his play has left a lot to be desired of late.

Look for our season ending awards article to come out next week as well as my new feature predicting offseason moves.

Have a great day Steelers’ Nation!
